new Stephen Low movie available on 3D Blu-Ray

Our client Stephen Low, the film-maker behind the upcoming 3D Indy 500 movie, just had his last movie released on 3D Blu-Ray. The film is called The Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D and it was recently reviewed by blu-raydefinition.com

Here is a snippet from the review:

"The Ultimate Wave: Tahiti 3D follows world class professional surfer Kelly Slater to Tahiti’s Teahupo’o in search of the ultimate wave. Directed by IMAX large-format veteran Stephen Low, the film puts viewers right into the gnarly waves of some of the world’s clearest waters.

But the film doesn’t end there; it delves into the science of why Teahupo’o creates what surfers around the world consider to be some of the greatest waves while also exploring the culture of the Tahitian people.

The Ultimate Wave: Tahiti is filled with beautiful cinematography, wonderful aerial shots, underwater photography, and scenes of native dances and rituals that will surely dazzle.

The Ultimate Wave: Tahiti looks beautiful whether you watch it in 2D or 3D. The 3D encodement is in full 1080p and looks marvelous, with vivid colors and sharp details. The 3D effect, like most of these IMAX films, is more natural than featuring lots of “pop-out,” even featuring some moments that seem simply flat and 2D. Still, there is little ghosting/crosstalk. In 2D, the image is just a bit more textured and natural looking, but colors look about the same, with beautiful cerulean blue seas and lemon yellows.

This is one of the most fun-filled IMAX titles I have seen to date. The surfing scenes of Kelly Slater and his friends are amazing to watch and the rest of the visuals are just spectacular. Recommended."

Chicago Auto Show / Chevrolet Camaro Indy 500 Pace Car

The 2011 Indy 500 Pace Car is currently being displayed at the nation long-running and largest auto show, The Chicago Auto Show. Pegasus Marketing organzied the auction of this car at Barrett-Jackson, with all of the proceeds going to The David Foster Foundation.

Caitlyn Stoeckley, a contributor on The Chicago Auto Show's blog, recently wrote this story about the excitement of seeing the Pace Car on the opening day of the show.

"The anticipation had been building all morning, but it may have reached its peak when I was handed earplugs as I arrived at Chevrolet's press conference at the Auto Show. The daughter of a die-hard Indy race fan, I found myself becoming just as excited as my dad is each year when he arrives at the Brickyard. The limited edition Camaro SS Convertible rolled onto the stage with the star factor of Dario Franchitti moments after his big Indy victory.

The convertible, modeled after the 1969 Indy Pace Car, looked daring and chic with its white exterior and orange racing stripes. My father, who has been attending the race loyally since 1975, will undoubtedly recognize the classic pace car model. With just 500 of these limited edition convertibles being manufactured this spring for the public, I’m sure he's getting in line as I type. I just can't wait to impress dear old dad with the news that I saw this exclusive piece of Chevrolet and Indy Car history before him!"

Thrill Ride for The David Foster Foundation

Addison Brown was the winner of the charity auction for the 2011 Indy 500 Pace Car. AutoWeek recently published a story about her and the thrilling experience she is going to have this coming May:

"Come this Memorial Day Sunday, Addison Brown will experience the ride of her life. She will do this in the great Midwest city of Speedway, Ind., thanks to her largess, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the people from Chevrolet.

It will be a weekend she'll never forget.

Addison, from Scottsdale, Ariz., will drive one of the Chevrolet Camaro pace cars in front of the screaming throng of spectators before the green flag flies for the Indy 500. This will not be just any ol' 500. Come May 30, 2011, it will be the race run to mark the 100th anniversary of the first Indy 500.

Huge deal. Awe-frickin'-inspring deal. And because Addison made the winning bid to benefit the David Foster Foundation (www.davidfosterfoundation.org), a charity devoted to supporting families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants, she will feel the magnitude of giving beyond what the $225,000 bid set her back.

I just hope Addison doesn't do something she will regret, like stall the car on the grid before the pace cars roll. It can happen, because it did.

To me.

That was a few years back, when I was offered a chance to drive a Chevy Corvette on several of the parade laps. That opportunity remains one of the single great moments in my professional career. That I was able to share it with my three sons made it priceless; it was a weekend they will remember long after I'm gone that they can share memories of with their grandchildren.

Come Memorial Day, Addison will be able to say she took the white-and-orange-striped Camaro on the ride of her life. In front of a singing Jim Nabors with the Purdue Marching Band, balloons and a jet fly-over. There will be more pomp than the circumstance requires, and it will leave an indelible mark on her forever.

She'll do great. Unlike me, she won't prematurely pop the clutch and stall the engine. She's been to the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving and carries an SCCA ticket. And with her giving, others will be fine as a result. That's what charity should be, a benefit to all involved.

Thanks, Indy. Thanks, Chevy. Thanks, Addison. I will watch this year's 500 with more interest than ever."

Mario Andretti discusses The Indy 500 Centennial Tour on FOX

It is wonderful to listen to our friend Mario Andretti talking about the The Indy 500 Centennial Tour and all the good memories they are creating for our troops around the world.

The Indy 500 Centennial Tour was created to increase troop morale by bringing the excitement of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Indianapolis 500 directly to more than 10,000 service men and women at military bases and on even to an aircraft carrier at sea. The IndyCar stars will give motivational talks and participate in autograph and Q & A sessions, meet and greets, and photo opportunities.

In addition to receiving thousands of gifts, several lucky troops will get to experience the thrill of being an IndyCar passenger in the specially modified Dallara two-seater that is accompanying the tour. The troops will get the rare opportunity to face the g-forces and feel the speeds involved in IndyCar racing as they are driven by IndyCar legends Andretti, Unser and Rutherford.

2011 Indy 500 Pace Car announcement

The 2011 Indy 500 Pace Car was unveiled tonight at the Barrett Jackson auction. It is the brand new Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible, with a special paint job and interior styled to resemble the retro 1969 model. It will be auctioned off this weekend (SPEED will televise the Camaro auction between 9-11 p.m.) and all the proceeds from the auction will goto The David Foster Foundation! Not only does the winner get to make a sizable contribution to a very deserving charity, they also get to drive the car in the parade lap of the 100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500, making them part of one of the most historic auto races of all time. Official press release and images below.

A thrill of a lifetime awaits the winning bidder of the Barrett-Jackson auction Saturday, Jan. 22 for the special-edition Chevrolet Camaro Convertible that will serve as the Official Pace Car for the 2011 Indianapolis 500.

The top bidder will have the opportunity to drive the car during a parade lap in front of the field of 33 starters shortly before the green flag flies at “The Most Important Race In History” on Sunday, May 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

SPEED will televise the Camaro auction between 9-11 p.m. (ET) Jan. 22 during its 11 consecutive hours of live coverage from 2 p.m.-1 a.m., with Indianapolis 500 winners and speed milestone holders Arie Luyendyk and Tom Sneva scheduled to drive the Camaro Convertible Pace Car onto the auction stage in Scottsdale, Ariz. Luyendyk and officials from IMS and Chevrolet unveiled the car Thursday, Jan. 20 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale.

The 2011 Camaro Convertible is the 22nd Chevrolet and the seventh Camaro chosen to pace the Indianapolis 500. This year is the 100th anniversary of the race and also the centennial year of Chevrolet.

“The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Chevrolet name have long been associated with one another beginning with Arthur, Louis and Gaston Chevrolet’s participation as competitors in the Indianapolis 500,” said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation president and chief executive officer. “It’s fitting in this 100th year for IMS and Chevy that we reinforce our longtime relationship through this year’s Camaro Pace Car.

“We’re also thrilled that the car will be one of the featured vehicles in the world-famous Barrett-Jackson auction, with a superb incentive for the winning bidder and a vital charity involved.”

Chevrolet will donate full proceeds of the auction to the David Foster Foundation (http://www.davidfosterfoundation.org), a charity devoted to supporting families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants. David Foster, the 15-time Grammy-winning music producer and songwriter, founded the organization in his native Canada. His cousin Billy Foster participated as a driver in the 1965 and 1966 Indianapolis 500.

A bidder will have the opportunity to purchase the car Saturday, Jan. 22, live on SPEED. This auctioned vehicle will not be that actual Pace Car, nor will the high bidder be the traditional celebrity Pace Car driver. The celebrity driver will be announced at a later date.

The commemorative-edition Pace Car to be auctioned Jan. 22 is one of the 50 Indianapolis 500 Festival Committee Cars. It carries lot number 1284, and bids can be submitted at the auction in person or online by clicking the following link for a 2011 absentee bidder registration packet:

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/bid/AbsenteeBidder_Agree_Form_SD2011.pdf

This year’s Pace Car and matching Festival cars feature a Summit White exterior accented with orange stripes and door graphics. The interior is trimmed in orange leather, including front seat headrests embossed with the Indy 500 logo, along with white door panels and instrument panel trim. The instrument panel trim features extensions of the orange exterior stripes.

The color combination is similar to the design used on 1969 Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car replicas – cars which have become among the most popular Camaros in the collector world.

“It’s an honor for Chevrolet to pace the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, especially during this landmark year,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “This is also a great opportunity for us to build on Camaro’s strong momentum, while supporting an important charity.”

Equipped with a 400-horsepower V-8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, the actual Pace Car for the race requires no performance modifications to perform its duty in front of the 33-car racing field. All 50 of the Festival Committees cars – including the car auctioned Jan. 22 – will be SS convertible models fitted with the 2SS equipment package and RS package.

USPS 100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500 Stamp

The 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 is being recognized with a new stamp next year from the U.S. Postal Service. Award-winning illustrator John Mattos created the stylized, art deco illustration of Ray Harroun driving the Marmon "Wasp", winner of the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911, on the Indianapolis 500 Forever Stamp. "It's a great honor for the Indianapolis 500 to be featured on a United States Postal Service stamp", said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation president and chief executive officer. "The stamp recognizes the "500" as a vital part of american culture and is a wonderful addition to our celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the race in 2011."
